You need a new starter
Look here: How do you change the starter on a 1996 Toyota Corolla?Prizm and Corolla engines are the same.
The signal for the starter originates from the key switch, I would start there.
Any auto parts store can quote you a price for a starter for your vehicle.
Remove the positive cable from your 1999 Chevy battery. Remove the cables from the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.
I just had the same thing happen with my Nissan. Your car died because your battery is bad. The clicking sound is also because your battery is bad most likely. It could be your starter, but always start with the cheap and easy fixes before moving on. If it's not you battery it is either you starter or your ignition.
Make sure the starter is getting voltage. If it is, perhaps the starter is bad. If it isn't, maybe your ignition switch is shot.
There could be many reasons why a 2001 Chevrolet Prizm will not start. A few reasons could be a bad starter, bad plugs, no gas, or a bad sensor.
First you look and try to jump it if it rumbles its the allternater
Wired incorrectlyor defective starter solenoid that stuck in closed position
Could be a weak starter - requires more cranking power when hot
