If the ABS light is on, the computer is telling you that there is an ABS fault. You need to scan the ABS computer, but as of yet there don't seem to be many that are available to the general public. Some brake shops will scan it for you in hopes of repairing it. Try going in for a free estimate. Watch them to make sure they connect a diagnostic code scanner and aren't just guessing. Many times they'll tell you that it's the control module and they won't bother to check anything first, then they'll tell you how many hundreds of dollars a new ABS controller will cost you. Quite often it's just a wheel speed sensor, loose or corroded wire or something else that's much less expensive than the control module, but they're either too lazy or too (pardon me) STUPID to figure it out. If they won't check it and don't know how, they shouldn't be in the business. Sorry about the soabox but I'm so tired of shops automatically assuming that it's the control module and charging people a fortune to repair their ABS. Of course, once they replace the ABS control module and find out that THAT's not the problem, they'll start checking and find the real problem and since they can't take the new module back they'll charge you for it as well and tell you that BOTH were bad. Bonus for them, they sell more parts, and you get to pay for stuff you didn't need. This is one case where it's almost better to let the dealer help you figure it out. They have good code scanners and can pinpoint the failed component far easier than you can. Unfortunately, dealers don't usually give free estimates.
