its the tps
I'm not sure -- mine is having the same problem. All other gears work fine, overdrive just slips. Checking into a overdrive control module -- friend mechanic suggested this may be the problem. He said it's a cheap fix $15-20
It is best to use overdrive at speeds above 55 miles per hour. Overdrive maximizes your fuel mileage at high speeds.
If the overdrive switch is turned off then the car will not go into overdrive. As it is not in overdrive, then it will not downshift out of overdrive as it normally would. It also will not shift to 3rd gear above a certain factory preset speed. Turn th overdrive on and see if it operates normally.
Unless there is an access panel above the fuel pump inside the vehicle, you must remove the fuel tank in order to replace the fuel pump.
If your vehicle has an automatic transmission with overdrive, then at speeds above 45 mph, it should be in overdrive, which reduces engine RPM's to save fuel.
On a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria : Overdrive is the normally allowed position , although the transmission will not shift into overdrive until the speed is higher If the overdrive is switched off , on the gauge cluster just to the right / and above the speedometer you will see the O/D OFF warning light ( if you have the digital dash it will show overdrive off in the upper right )
On my 1994 there is a button in the end of the gear shift arm. This turns off the overdrive and the dash says "Overdrive Off" above the odometer and gas mileage messages. Other than that, I don't know.
There is no problem, unless the wife has issue being in second place. 'C' is considered average, while even a 'B-' is considered above average, a 'B+' is considered well above average, so the wife should revell in the fact that she is above average, even if her husband has surpassed her.
On the end of your gear selector lever ( PRN etcetera ) is the transmission control switch . Overdrive is the normally allowed position , but when you turn the overdrive off ( the O/D OFF light will light up just above and to the right of the speedometer and if you have the digital dash it will show " overdrive off " to the right of the speed indicator )
Hi, I'm not sure if by now you have the problem solved but I have a few small suggestions. The first simple thing you need to check is the button; press to make it go into overdrive. If the button does not work and I assume it doesn't and you have already checked it as this is a no brainer right? I have one stuck in overdrive by the way, and so you will next need to check the fuses inside the car, check the fuses under the hood too (you will need to put a tester on them to make sure they are putting off power to the fuse) and then if not luck, take to a mechanic to seek into it further. I'm still waiting on my mechanic to get me in. Most do not need overdrive in the city and use it on slick roads for a slower speed only. No need to worry at this point unless the conditions are as described above. Sorry I couldn't help more.
If it's the same as the 1999 Ford Crown Victoria " civilian " version : The O/D OFF ( Overdrive Off ) light is above and just to the right of the speedometer
