There is a switch on the brake pedal that send a signal when you touch the brakes to put the car into gear. Make sure that is working. If it is there is a solinoid on the shifter that could be bad.
On my '94, I went through dipstick. Make sure you get the HONDA/ACURA fluid from the dealer.
My trusted transmission shop says don't touch the transmission fluid or filter until you have a problem! Otherwise if you start messing with it you will cause a problem. His advice has worked for me for 100k miles or more on all my cars!
The new hood will fit as long as its between 91-95 and if you have a coupe the hood needs to be from another coupe, the sedan hood will not fit on the coupe or vice/versa. Hope this helps!

If the car is not banging and grinding it could be a wiring electrical problem or a bad Solenoid which is also electrical, but more extensive repair. The transmission is most likely not junk, but expect to spend a good amount of money to get it fixed. I am having this problem in my 2000 XK8 coupe which has the same engine and transmission.
