There is a problem deep inside the engine.
How do I get engine codes for 1999 toyota corolla?
I did quite a bit of Googling about this very problem just a week or so ago. You can do what I did; Google "Sunfire check engine light". Tons of answers, mostly involving having the car's computer codes read to determine what's going on. Autozone, or any of the major parts houses will read the codes at no charge to you. Then, you'll have to get your mechanic to chase down and fix the problem. Having said that, I'd like to point out that I haven't been able to determine if your "wrench" light is the same as the "check engine" light in my older Sunfire. I suspect that they are one and the same, but don't quote me here. The "check engine" light comes on when there is something wrong in the emissions system. It can be as simple as the fuel cap not being on tight. You might check that. Take it loose and retighten it securely. It may take a few drive cycles for it to go out if indeed, this is the problem. Sorry I can't be more definitive for you. Try the cap. If that doesn't help, have the codes read. FriPilot
I'm not sure if you'll find a specific airbag code or not. Usually, the codes refer to engine management systems. At any rate, the codes are read via an access port located under the dash on the driver's side.Code readers can be purchased at most any good parts store, or most of the big box stores will read them for you at no charge.
When the Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on, it means something wrong was detected, either with emissions or performance. When this happens, the computer will have a diagnostic code in memory that can be retrieved with an OBDII scanner. Auto Zone will scan and retrieve the diagnostic codes free of charge.
fluids are fine, no codes, and it wont shift past 2nd gear. any help?
well..............what are the codes?
Your question is a bit vague, but here goes. If your Check Engine light is on, or if you're experiencing problems with your car, you might want to have the codes read. You can have this done at most auto parts stores at no charge. The car's computer spits out these codes to help diagnose problems. The auto parts store guy or gal, can translate the codes for you or, you can look here; http://autorepair.about.com/od/obdcodedatabase/The_Exhaustive_Database_of_OBDI_and_OBDII_Engine_Codes.htm and probably find what the codes mean. Alternatively, you can buy your own code reader to perform the checks yourself. FriPilot
The only way to know what is wrong is to have the error codes read that are set in the computer from the check engine light. Most auto parts stores will read the code for free and give you advice on repairing the problem.
The OBD2 system will not BLINK codes for you. It requires a engine scanner to read the codes. HAVE ENGINE SCANED. Some parts stores will do that for free.
