The only way to know what is wrong is to have the error codes read that are set in the computer from the check engine light. Most auto parts stores will read the code for free and give you advice on repairing the problem.

Depending on the year, if it has a distributor cap, check for moisture ON THE INSIDE. Otherwise, check the plug wires, if they haven't been replaced for a while now seems like a good time. sunfires never had a cap and rotor change you plugs and wires if still persists look into a possible cracked coil or bad module especially if yours are mounted on the back of the engine
