1998 c230 will not start

I'm not an expert of any kind but...if your problem was the same as mine, I can help.

I bought a 1998 Mercedes Benz C230. Once when I went to drop some things off, I got out of the car and pressed the trunk button on my key and the trunk didn't open. After several tries, it finally popped open. Granted, I don't know all of the variations on how the millions of functions on this car works like when the windows go down themselves when trying to open the trunk with the key, etc.... After getting the trunk open, I unloaded my stuff, shut the trunk then went around to get in and tried to start the car. It was completely dead, no lights on the panel, nothing. It was weird like someone stole the battery or it had died suddenly. I started to panic as I was blocking traffic in the lot. I started playing with the different buttons and behold, all the lights came on and the car started! The time was off just like the battery had died. What worked was turning the headlight switch all the way to the right and back to center a couple of times. I was hoping it was a one time thing. A few weeks later, I was at Walmart and had stuff I wanted to put in the trunk. Again, I tried to get the trunk open and it took several times on my remote key to get it to pop open. Just like before, I couldn't start it as it was completely dead. I started to freak again as I had an important appointment. I thought about what I had done the last time and low and behold.. playing with the head light dial worked again. It just comes back to life! Of course the clock was off again but so what as long as it worked.

Someone told me that perhaps it's a safety or security device that kills the car if you mess with the remote too much as in pushing the buttons over and over in my case or are attempting to steal the car somehow.
