If it's like my 1994 model, you have to remove the left side (shifter side) side cover just below the seat and there's a rubber tube shoved in to a plug secured by a hose clamp. You take off the clamp and the oil tank drains. You cant drain the bottom of the crank case. It was never intended to be drained. If you ever totally empty the oil from a big twin they will "sump" when they are re-started and that can cause cylinder damage. Anyway, when you pull that rubber hose/tube the oil comes out hard and fast so have a container ready. It's about 3 1/2 quarts on mine and when you remove the filter it runs all over the voltage regulator. Take an old gallon sized plastic milk jug or something similar and make a slide to fit up under the oil filter when you unscrew it. You can cut the plastic to give the oil a path to follow into a pan or something instead of all over your regulator and the front and bottom of your motor. Happy riding! You have one of the greatest motorcycles ever built. Take care of it and it will always take care of you.
Remove the drain plug from the bottom of the chain case with a torx bit. While it is draining, remove the torx bits from the access panel. After the oil has drained completely, reinstall the drain plug. Fill the chain case using a funnel with a quart of oil. Replace the gasket and reinstall the access panel.
