There are two types of air filters: Engine air filter and Cabin air filter. I changed both last week....

----

Cabin: Keeps inside of passenger air clean from pollen, etc.

1. Inside the glovebox, open panel by lifting tab upwards, and out.

2. Open plastic door towards you and to the right.

3. pull out first filter. There are two of them. Note (and remember!!) foam gasket on filters. Feel free to use your digital camera in case you have amnesia like my wife says I have.

4. with your fan OFF, stick your hand inside and to the left, you'll feel the other filter. Note orientation of filter and slide to the right and pull straight out.

As a side note, if you stick your hand back in, you'll feel the fan motor. Can in manually spin when you turn it? If so, its good! If not, take it to a mechanic.

Your done! Installation is the opposite. Refer to your pics to get the orientation right!

----

Engine Air Filter: Located front drivers side. Its awkwardly located under the coolant recovery tank, compressed with hard plastic corrugated intake air lines.

1. You'll need to remove half the pipe system to have enough play to remove the air filter housing. Some people say that you can remove the two metal tabs and rotate the pipe system, but, like the inexperienced backyard mechanic that I am, coupled with my bad luck, I wasn't able to do it. Instead I loosened the screw clamp (second one away from the air housing, immediately next to the metallic box (air flow sensor?!?).

2. I gently (like with your wife) pryed the big hose off the metallic box. It should be partially disconnected. Disconnect the one sensor clip carefully.

3. I forcefully (like with your secret lover) moved the pipe from the metallic box. The pipe withstands man-handling.

4. Now unclasp the air filter housing. On the bottom, there are slotted tabs keeping it in place, so you'll have to tilt and lift off the cover.

5. Voila, there it is. Remove and TOSS the filter. Its not worth vacuuming it, there are so many fine particulates in there, embedded in the membrane, that it will never be as good as new. Don't keep it.

6. With a shop vac, or dustbuster, suck up all the dirt/leaves etc on the intake side of the filter housing. Clean the entire inside of the housing. Why change your filter and not clean the entire area?

7. install the new filter with the fins on your right. Ensure proper seal, (no gaps)

8. Slip left side of air filter housing back on, ensuring all four slotted tabs are in position. Clamp the two metal clips.

9. Time to be a SOB with the lower air pipe and forcefully slip it back on to the air flow sensor. Carefully use a screwdriver if needed but don't crack the pipe.

10. There is a slot on the Air flow sensor, so make sure the pipe is aligned with it. When in place, tighten up the screw clamp.

All done! 20 mins tops!

Good luck
