Can't remember if mine would go into second, but I did have an issue with not going into reverse. The reverse gear shaft/hub was fractured inside the transmission. Had to do a complete rebuild. GM, upgraded the shaft to strenghten this because of this failure. Hope this helps, Mark
If your Chevy van is not going in reverse, it could be due to several issues, such as a low transmission fluid level, a faulty transmission linkage, or a malfunctioning transmission itself. Additionally, problems with the shift solenoid or the gear selector could also prevent the vehicle from engaging in reverse. It's best to have a professional mechanic diagnose the issue to determine the exact cause and necessary repairs.
Could be a linkage problem..
trottle control module
No
it could be the window
A vehicle will shake in the reverse function when there is an issue with the engine, although other issues could cause this issue as well.

drive shaft could be out of balance or tires could be out of round
Could happen if caused serious injuries...
Possible shifter or linkage problem? ie: not actually going into reverse. Ummmm, you didn't zoom the tires in reverse and blow the gear did you... Hope that helps.
my '87 celebrity does the same thing sometimes when i change gears from park to drive or even reverse and step on the gas my mechanic says it could be the choke. have it checked
The easiest and cheapest answer is that it is low on transmission fluid. If that is not the case, then the transmission must be rebuilt.
