The owners manual say 75W-90 gear oil, but I've also used 80W-90, and 85W-140, depending on how hard it driven with no problems. I use 80W-90 in my 2000 Wrangler Sport (4.0L) because it's my daily driver and is subjected to a 46 mile round trip commute 4 to 5 days a week. It has 155,000 miles on it and is still ticking along great. The last time I had the differential cover off was at 145,000 and it still looks to be in good condition considering how much abuse it's had. If you do a LOT of hard off-roading you may consider the 85W140, but for most people the 75W-90 or 80W-90 gear oil is adequate.
