This is the coolant level idiot light, Mercury messed up when they designed this and the light goes on when the coolant is well within tolerance. You can either replace the sensor with a new one from Ford that has been redesigned, or you can top off the coolant to just at the Max line, or to just a little above, that should turn the light off.
