Have it checked for codes. You will probably have a misfire code. You will need to know what the code is to be able to diagnose.
These contribute to misfire:
i have a 1994 eclipse with a 1.8 we replaced the head gasket and timeing belt now it sputters at low rpms an the check engine light is on what could be th problem ?
no, door locks have nothing to do with check engine light.
It will cause the check engine light to come on with no benefits.
On a 2001 Ford Windstar the check engine light looks like a picture of an engine just to the right and a little bit lower than the ( O/D OFF light )
it could be an issue related to your oxygen intake check oxy sensors if check engine light is on.
you have a cylinder misfire
If this occurs, then it means that there is a problem with you engine. A mechanic can figure out how your engine should be fixed.
Turn on the ignition and do not start the engine. The light will come on unless the bulb is burnt out or someone has removed it.
I had same problem, but this can be caused by a few different things. its either the PTU, the coil pack or the ECU, more often than not its the ECU!
It's the icon / graphic of a an engine, upper right hand area of the instrument panel.
I had the same problem on my 1999 Windstar. It turned out that the light bulb for this indicator was burned out. I simply replaced it and the problem was solved!!
If your check engine light is blinking with the engine running that means an engine cylinder misfire has been detected . You will need to have your Ford Windstar scanned for any trouble codes to help diagnose and then repair the problem . You can drive it in to have it repaired , just drive in a moderate fashion ( avoid any rapid acceleration or deceleration because you can damage the catalytic converter )
