There are many different 2001 GM models, need to know what model.
As a Gm Tech, i have done two of these. They take a couple of days to do. It incolves taking out the evaporator core for the ac, and the whole heater box. Not a back yard job
I was going to describe the whole thing, but found a video in youtube, just watch it and go ahead, it's easy. search on youtube: HOW TO: GM Truck Heater Core I didn't post the link because it dissapears. regards
hi, i need to know how to replace the heater core with a/c on a 1994 gmc jimmy. a diagram would be helpful
make sure your radiator is clean and no problems first, otherwise you will be throwing away $250 for the new heater core. Pontiacs are notorious "GM's" for having a plastic intake manifold gasket that leaks, which then mixes oil with the radiator fluid and produces this nifty orange rusty looking sludge, which then proceeds to clog your heater core -- so make sure the rest of your system works before trying to replace your heater core. www.autozone.com has free online car manuals that will help with the replacement location, hoses etc of the heater core
Go toautozone.com and look in repair info.
The heater core on most GM vehicles is located behind the dashboard. You must remove the entire dashboard to gain access to the heater core which is mounted to the backside of the firewall. try this: http://www.zr2usa.com/mboard/index.php?showtopic=19527&st=0&#entry405342
Remove the dash on the passenger side. Good luck, this is not an easy job.
alve, check vacum line first (on heater valve)
the rubber elbow is a drain for the heater and ac box, it should only have clear water coming out of is on a hot day with the a/c cranked up. and antifreeze indicates a bad heater core.
This task sucks. I work for a Gm dealership in the truck dept. so I can feel for you on this. Most 98-up models, the dash bezel needs to be removed. The heater core sits behind the glove box in the heater box. Good luck
yea take the gmc emblem out of the grill and put it on a truck with a good heater core.ride on out.i have same problem.gess i need to look up removing the dash
# Drain the cooling system. # Remove or disconnect the following: Wiper module Brake booster vacuum hose Air cleaner cover and intake tube Throttle and cruise control cables, from the TBI bracket, also Transmission filler tube Hoses from the heater core Right and left instrument panel insulators Center floor air outlet Heater outlet duct Tie strap holding the instrument panel harness to the heater core cover Heater core cover Heater core retaining screw Heater core You need to check if the heater hose are leaking through the clamps before you attempt this plus if you know for a fact that the heater core is leaking then you need to contact GM's Customer Service Department and see if they can do what is called (Good-Will) for you meaning that it will be done for free or you may have to pay only 20 percent.......
