If the cooling fans were working and all the hoses and water pump are not leaking coolant I would suspect the head gasket and/or a cracked head is very possible. You need to have the cooling system pressure checked, this will help determine the cause of the coolant leak. I wouldn't run the engine anymore at this point, if coolant is mixing with the engine oil it would be the end soon.
Just follow the top radiator hose to where it clamps to the top front of the engine. Remove the clamp on the hose that holds it to the housing that has 2 bolts holding it to the engine and it will be under that housing.

i am have the same prob with my 1996 Chevy the only why i belive is going to be with a chevt tech2 scanner. the scanner can go into the b.c.m and turn stuff like that on
The common fix for this problem is dirty control swithc on the environment console. I toolk mine apart and cleaned it to fix this same problem in my Malibu
