Is it really a 5.5 hour job for labor to replace the plug wires on a 2003 Mercury Sable. A local dealer wants me to pay just under $700.00 for parts and labor. The parts are 155 for wires and 54 for the plugs. The rest is all labor the net before taxes was $684.89. I do not know what to do I can not afford that bill. Plus the can not fix the the rest of need repairs that are covered under warranty without the plug wire to let engine run smoothly. What to do????? Please Help ! ! !
Go to another dealer and get a second opinion.
I would also suggest getting quotes from non-dealer repair shops for the spark plug & wires replacements. Then have the service manager explain why they are charging you $500 MORE than the others.
Have these repair shops quote using Motorcraft brand parts - that way the dealer cannot use the quality or brand of the parts as even a partial excuse (I use Motorcraft myself when doing my own work).
You're being scammed...
They are located in the cylinder heads. Just follow the wires and that will lead you to them
Just had the spark plugs and wires replaced in my 2002 Sable and it cost $420+ tax. Hope this helps
Replace the spark plugs and wires. Replace the fuel filter.
Pull off the upper intake plenum and you will have access to the plugs and wires.
Remove the spark plug wires from your 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis spark plugs. Remove the spark plugs by turning them to the left with a deep well 5/8 socket. Reverse the process to install the new spark plugs.
By any chance did you take all the spark plug wires off at the same time? Are you sure that you have the firing order correct? Did you get the plug wire connectors seated on the top of the spark plugs securely? You should feel a 'click' when removing the wires. Did you seat the plug wires in the distributor completely? If there is a gap, it can cause the cylinder to miss.
Bad plugs and wires or/and coil
One at a time
6 ========================================================== The above answer is correct if you have the 3.0 liter DOHC , DURATEC V6 engine in your 2004 Mercury Sable --------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you have the 3.0 liter VULCAN V6 ( and the flex fuel version ) it has the Electronic Distributorless Ignition System ( EDIS ) and has ( 1 coil pack that has 6 towers for the spark plug wires )
No the spark plug wires have to be in firing order
Nothing
