What engine do you have in your vehicle? If it is a 1.8T, your coil packs are on the very top of the motor. There are 4, one for each cylinder. Once you pull the plastic engine cover off (if you still have it) you cant miss the coil packs.
does anyone know how to change a coil on a 2003 jetta volkswagon and is it hard thx

No. 1 spark plug tower location on coil pack 2002 Jetta 2.0 Engine
Easy !!! Replace the coil. That setup is a temporary solution for when the coil goes bad.
The year make a difference but in general the ecu fires the coil according to other signals like the crank sensor
No. They are coil packs and each spark plug has its own.
Part of the coil mounted to the fire wall
Where all the wires plug into. That is the ignition coil. The ignition coil is inside the distributor behind the cap. Remove the distributor cap screws, remove the cap and you will see the coil.
near the shock absorbers, would be my guess.
Here is a photo of the ignition coil. It is in the engine compartment against the fire wall. if you find the distributor with 4 wires going to the spark plugs, follow the distributor center wire which plugs into the ignition coil. A new coil is about $150. Good Luck. Sorry, the photo didn't work. Search at "http://www.gprparts.com/OEMParts/vw.asp" for a 1997 Jetta igition coil to see the photo
