The Mazda 6, year 2006, has a cartridge oil filter. Unlike the traditional oil filters, the cartridge oil filter is permanently attached to the engine within a housing unit.

The oil filter on a 2005 Mazda 6, v6 is on the front side of the engine block about 8 inches up from the bottom of the engine block. You have to go in from under the car. Don't know about 4 cylinder.

The four cylinder (2.5 liter engine) takes 4.5 us quarts if you change the filter and 4.1 us quarts if you don't change the oil filter. They both use the same viscosity of oil because of the vast temperature range of the 5W20 grade oil.
