To find the proof multiply the percentage alcohol by two. To find the percent alcohol, divide by two. i.e.:

50proof=25%

100proof=50%

200proof=100%

Seriously, look this stuff up. It's not hard to find.

If 80 proof beverages are 40 percent alcohol what percent alcohol is in a drink that is 20 percent by volume?

20% or 40 proof. All the bottles of alcohol I've ever seen use ABV or alcohol by volume or proof on them. Note: This is based on the US system. In the UK, the ratio of degrees proof is 4:7, not 1:2. The labelling of alcoholic beverages with their ABV percentage is mandated by most governments.

If you have a 5 percent alcohol drink and a 15 percent alcohol drink and mix them together is it now a 20 percent alcohol drink?

No. The lower proof liquid will always have the 5% ratio, and can never increase regardless of the volume. It will reducethe %-age of alcohol overall.

How many gallons each of 25 percent alcohol and 35 percent alcohol should be mixed to obtain 20 gallons of 32 percent alcohol?

The question is best solved using basic algebra. You need 20 gallons of 32% alcohol. This will contain 0.32*20 = 6.4 gallons of pure alcohol. Now suppose you have X gallons of 25% alcohol in the mixture. That contains 0.25X gallons of pure alcohol. Also, since you have 20 gallons in total, you must have 20-X gallons of the 35% alcohol. This will contain 0.35*(20-X) = 7 - 0.35X gallons of pure alcohol. Then, the total amount of pure alcohol is 0.25X + 7 - 0.35X = 7 - 0.1X gallons. So you have 7 - 0.1X = 6.4 or 0.6 = 0.1X or X = 6. So the answer is 6 gallons of 25% alcohol and 14 gallons of the stronger stuff!
