The wire/s probably grounded or short circuited by touching each other or metal nearby. If there is a fuse check to see if it's blown. If so replace it. If there isn't a fuse (which is usually the case) the transformer will have to be replaced by a qualified person. An in-line fuse holder with the correctly rated fuse (and a couple of spares)would be a smart and cheap addition to protect the transformer from future shorts.
