The eightfold path was taught by Siddhartha Gautama who is recognized as Buddha in the 4th or 5th century B.C. in India and describes the way to end suffering by being compassionate: Wisdom: 1. Right View 2. Right Intention Ethical Conduct: 3. Right Speech 4. Right Action 5. Right Livelihood Mental Development: 6. Right Effort 7. Right Mindfulness 8. Right Concentration
There is no true founder of ethics, but a few famous philosophers that you could call founders of ethics are Confucius, The Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama), and Laozi... these are only 3 famous philosophers out of many others!
Buddhism developed after the Shakyamuni Buddha (Siddhārtha Gautama) became enlightened and shared some of his understanding with others. Those students studied his teachings, meditated and sometimes became enlightened themselves. In turn, they taught what they learned to other interested people, and eventually there was a community or Sangha of practitioners of the teachings of the Buddha. Once that community matured and the practices were codified to some extent, it became known as Buddhism. And the actual founder, as the name describes, is buddha a famous spiritual teacher, revered by many as a god.

Siddhartha Guatama. The day before his mother (the queen) was pregnant she went to a "counselor" the "counselor" said that when Siddharha sees the 3 ways of life he will not take the throne and go to be a Buddhist. When his dad heard this he got furious he wanted Siddhartha to be the next king not a stupid Buddhist. So he kept Siddhartha and his wife and new children in the castle when he was king. One day Siddhartha wanted to go out. He saw the 3 ways of life. 1. Sickness. 2. Injury's. 3. Death. He never wanted to do the 3 things and go threw suffering so he came up with Buddhism. Siddhartha Guatama is the founder of Buddhism.
The Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, was searching for the answer to why people suffer, probably better described as why people are dissatisfied with life. What he learned was this: 1) There is suffering (discontentment, unhappiness) in the world. 2) There are specific causes of this suffering. Suffering is caused by our desires and our self-centeredness. 3) There is a state (a mindset, a way of life) where suffering ceases. 4) There is a path (actions, practices) to attain this state of freedom from suffering. He called these ideas the Four Noble truths. He expanded these by identifying the Eightfold Path which detailed the positive aspects that a person should cultivate in his life. Although most of the Buddha's original training in meditation came during his period as an ascetic, these findings came after the Buddha abandoned the extreme practice of personal deprivation where he nearly starved himself to death by restricting his food intake to around a leaf or nut per day. Siddhartha reconsidered this path and began to follow the middle way.
By a man named Sidharata Gautama. He was originally born in India and he had never seen the outside world. He made 4 trips outside of home and this is what he saw: 1. he sees a dead man 2. he sees a beggar 3. he sees an old man 4.he sees a holy man. then he comes with a way to end human suffrage which is when he discovers 4 noble truths, 1. all life is suffering 2. desire causes suffering 3. end desire to end suffering 4. follow the eight fold path eight fold path- middle path between too much and too little. Sidharta Gautama wanders through the forest for the next 6 years and debated with religous leaders, meditates and fasts. After 49 days of straight fasting... he found that this was the way to end human suffrage. Then China adapted and made the "budha" into their own version... Source: My history notes
