Do you try and please your god? Why? Their gods (particularly Apollo) were prone to give death to those who did wrong. Apollo was a caring and kind deity, but he did not look kindly on those who disrespected him, nor did the other gods. This is why they worshiped all of their gods, and tried to please them as much as they could.
