Dont discount the idea that your disks may be bad. Floppy disks have been around a long time and disks which are more than a couple years old may no longer be readable.

To test this theory, get some new floppies & format them with the new drive. Put some data on there & see if you can retrieve it. If this doesnt work, then yes, you probably have a bad floppy drive (or drives).

Note, it is an easy mistake to make to put the ribbon cable on backwards. If the light on the drive comes on & stays on even when there is no disk, that is a sure sign that the ribbon cable is on backwards.
