Contact Details

At the top of your resume, you should provide your full legal name, mailing address, telephone number(s), and email address. Be sure to list valid contact details so the potential employer can reach you in a timely manner.

Educational Credentials

The education section of your resume should include information about degrees, certificates, licenses or Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) that you earned. You may also include details about a degree or training that is in progress. Don’t forget to list the name and location of the institution where you obtained your degree(s) or training and the date that you received each credential.

Work Experience

In the work experience section of your resume, you should provide information about your current and past employers, your job title and duties for each position you held and the dates of employment for each job. Be sure to only include work experience that is relevant to the type of job that you are seeking. In addition, you should list your work history in chronological order beginning with your most recent job position.

Skills

Think about the different type of work-related skills that you possess and list those items in this section of your resume. For example, you may choose to list important skills, such as being computer literate (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Express); effective communication skills (verbal, written and listening); analytical/research skills; and leadership/management skills (e.g. ability to manage multiple projects and supervise staff).

References

It is not necessary to provide contact details for references on your actual resume. However, at the bottom of your resume you should let the potential employer know that “References Are Available Request.”

Additional Information

Please note that you may include other sections on your resume, such as a career objective or a section illustrating your awards and other accomplishments (if applicable). However, it may be more sufficient to simply create a cover letter to accompany your resume. It is best to keep your resume between 2 to 3 pages.
