The Black Death started in late 1346 in Central Asia, China or possibly India. It was spread by infected Mongolian traders and reached the town of Caffa in the Crimea in 1347. From there the plague moved west through Germany, Italy, Spain and France and reached England by a port in either Melcombe, Bristol or Southampton in the summer of 1348.

The Black Death was an epidemic which ravaged Europe between 1347 and 1400. It was a disease spread through contact with animals (zoonosis), basically through fleas and other rat parasites (at that time, rats often coexisted with humans, thus allowing the disease to spread so quickly).
