Sounds to me like the neutral safety switch may be the culptrip. Not exactly sure where it is. Is this a floor shift or column shift? Will the engine try to start? in other words, does the starter engage? If not, then I would suspect the neutral safety switch. If the starter engages, but the engine won't start, then probably another issue.
Common signs of a broken shifter cable in a vehicle include difficulty shifting gears, the gear shifter feeling loose or not engaging properly, and the vehicle not moving when the shifter is in the correct position.
Long hair was dangerous around machinery with moving parts.
You Stratus has what is called Auto-Stick. You can "manually" shift the gears by putting it in the +/- position and moving the shifter side to side. You Stratus has what is called Auto-Stick. You can "manually" shift the gears by putting it in the +/- position and moving the shifter side to side.

To adjust the shifter indicator on a 1995 GMC Jimmy, first ensure the vehicle is in park and the ignition is off. Locate the shifter cable adjustment at the base of the steering column or on the transmission. Loosen the adjustment nut, move the shifter to the desired position, and then retighten the nut. Finally, check the indicator alignment by moving the shifter through all positions to ensure proper functionality.
The index shifter on a bicycle works by moving the derailleur to shift the chain onto different gears. When you push or pull the shifter, it adjusts the tension on the derailleur cable, causing the derailleur to move the chain onto a different sprocket, changing gears.
The shifter interlock solenoid is typically located within the transmission assembly or attached to the gear shifter mechanism in a vehicle. Its primary function is to prevent the gear shifter from moving out of the park position unless the brake pedal is pressed. In some vehicles, it may be found near the shifter itself or integrated into the transmission control module. Checking the vehicle's service manual can provide specific details about its location for a particular make and model.
we had the same problem...try wiggling the wire with the lights on and then keep moving it around til they stay on...worked for us!!
Do you mean that the shifter is able to move from park to drive and back, but the transmission is still in park? Is it possible that the shifter cable is broken, or has come off at the transmission. You will have to jack up the car, on safety jacks, have someone move the shifter, while you look at the linkage right at the transmission. Should give you the answer. The shifter itself could also be broke. Good luck.
In a manual transmission car, the gear shifter is used to change gears by moving it into different positions. When the driver moves the gear shifter, it engages or disengages different gears in the transmission, allowing the car to shift to a higher or lower gear ratio. This helps control the speed and power of the vehicle.
To shift your Honda Accord out of park, ensure that your foot is firmly on the brake pedal. If the brake light is functioning, you can press the shift release button, usually located on the gear shifter, while moving the shifter to the desired gear. If the vehicle won’t shift, check for a malfunctioning brake light switch or a dead battery, as these can prevent the shifter from moving out of park. If issues persist, consult your vehicle's manual or a professional mechanic for assistance.
The combination neutral start and backup light switch is mounted inside the shifter housing. Remove the screws holding down the shifter housing and remove the switch. Adjust the switch by moving it on its mounts.
