If you mean the cap, itself, push in and turn (counter-clockwise, I believe). If you mean the door, it simply pulls open, but you must have the car completely unlocked.

Hi! My Volvo is a '95, but probably it's the same. open hood, and close to you, on driver's side, is a yellow handle of plastic dipstick.
remove the cover where the gas cap and filler hose is it's mounted on the top of the tank.
Yes, every car should have a gas cap for a number of reasons. 1) in the event of an accident a gas cap is designed to prevent fuel from leaking out of the fuel filler pipe (especially in roll over situations), minimizing the chance of a fire; 2) the gas cap keeps gasoline from evaporating into the atmosphere, which is bad for the environment and a potential fire hazard; 3) in vehicles equipped with OBDII diagnostics, you will get a "check engine light" if a fuel cap is not in place and tightened properly.
This may not be much help, but it sounds like there is a vapor lock. that is, there be be a venting problem causing a build up of vacuum and preventing fuel flow to the engine.
at the beginning of your day before you start your engine open the radiator cap or bottle, see if the fluid is at the max or full line, if it is then your good if not add until it gets to max or full, NEVER, NEVER open it this cap when engine is hot, EVER.
I had the same problem when I was out in Las Vegas. I think it's vapor lock. Take your gas cap off when it does that and let it sit for a little.
Yes it is the cap on the plastic radiator fill tank
There is not a radiator cap, there is a coolant reservoir and it has a plastic cap that controls the pressure in the coolant circuit.
You can find the radiator cap for a 95 Grand Am at various auto parts stores. You can also find replacements through Pontiac dealerships.
