on the end of the pass side axle is a gear that engages the 4-wheel drive a slider like a manual tran sync slider engages it when the cable pulls on it. the gear get burr and stop the slider from sliding off.you can pull the tube off and grind burrs off or replace. it is held on with a snap ring on back side of gear.parts diagram call part " connector" part #9

This is so weird i have the same issue. It doesnt grind bad very slightly at times you have to pay attentsion to it. The person who responded to the question can you further explain this please. Thanks
