About 3 months ago I swapped my 97 corolla 1.6 engine with a 1.5 JDM engine (the old one was blown). The engine vibration appeared afterward. Here are the characteristics of it:
1. Strong vibration in D and R gears when the engine is on. But the vibration disappear when the RPM goes up, and the car moves.
2. Park and Neutral gears have little or no vibrations (at least, much better).
3. After the engine is warm, the vibration will be reduced significantly.
4. Low city MPG. 1.5L engine is supposed to have about 23 to 26 fuel economy. But my car has only 17-18!! However, highway MPG is 42.
5. I can smell the gas odor inside the car every morning I start the engine.
6. I see little water dipping from the exhaust tailpipe in cold weather 25-30F.
7. If I turn off the headlights and fog lights, the vibration will be reduced a little bit.
Here are what I have done so far, but the vibration still exists:
1. I have replaced ERG valve.
2. New spark plug and wires.
3. cleaned the Fuel Injector at Wal-Mart.
Can someone tell me what is the most possible issue causing the engine vibration? I will appreciate any idea you share with me.
96 and 97 Corolla and Prizm are the same, but, they have an extra crankshaft sensor, that the 93, 94, and 95 does not have,
that happend to me and my engine mounts where broken
I have a 96 corolla and the air intake sensor is on the housing for the air filter. It's on the part of the housing that can be taken off.
It could be your engine mount or you might need an alignment.
The 7th generation Corolla 1.6L engine (generally the 4A-FE) uses a timing belt. Timing chains did not come back until the 8th generation Corolla and newer (1998 and up used timing chains).
It's located near the back of the engine on the right side of the upper portion of the hood.
The engine may vibrate causing the front bumper pab=nel to rattle.
Usually a problem with the emission system - have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
R134a
There is not one on this vehicle.
There is a recall on this problem take it to the dealer
any engine would work if it fits. People like to put Chevy engines in Fords because they are simplier and more reliable. I know someone who put a Lexus engine in a 1986 corolla
