A USB header is a group of pins, typically on a computer motherboard or expansion card, to which an internal USB cable can be attached to provide extra USB ports. Typically, one header is a group of two USB ports. The most common USB header layout is: 5v, D-, D+, Gnd, NC 5v, D-, D+, Gnd, Key Some may be in reverse order, or completely different, so caution is advised. Manufacturers generally design USB headers on to their motherboards if they have extra USB ports left over from the design of the rear I/O. Instead of terminating these extra USB ports, they can be left as USB headers to be used by some other means. Many computer cases feature "Front USB Ports". These front USB ports connect to the USB headers on the motherboard. This is the most common use for USB headers. Words of Cauton: - There are several varieties of header pin layouts ranging from 4 pin, to 10 pin, The most common ones are 5 pin for single USB header, to 9 pin for dual USB, where pin 9 and 10 are not used. Pin 9 and blank pin 10 are to ensure the plug is inserted correctly. Some 9 pin header plugs have different places where the blank pin is and also a different wiring order. You must have the right wiring order and plug for your device, and to your motherboard, or you may do some serious damage to your PC and/or USB devices. It is wise to always double check the pins and wiring via a PC Tech before buying and installing any internal after market USB device.
USB cables for original USB can be up to 3 meters (9 feet, 10 inches) and hi speed USB cables can be up to 5 meters (16 feet, 5 inches). (reference p 404 guide to managing & maintaining your PC)
Use an USB-Cable
Yes you most certainly can, but not without the help of a DB-9 to USB converter. They typically run about $30 (US). Just Google "DB-9 to USB coverter" and guaranteed you will come up with something. I am sure that online is really going to be the only place to find it though. Most retailers wouldn't typically carry anything like this. Hope this helps =]
if the Dell computer has USB ports, then all you would need is the USB-iPod cable and download/install iTunes. If you system is really old and only have serial ports (9-pin male ports) and no USB ports, then you would need to get a PCI USB card installed into your system. Do not use Serial-USB adapters, as they do not always work.
The USB 2.0 and 3.0 device will work. USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.
Yes if your phone is USB 3.0 and not USB 2.0.
You can buy USB serial adapters at most retail outlets and computer supply stores. Depending on pin requirements, length of cables etc. they can cost anywhere from $9 and up.
Onboard USB are USB ports built into the motherboard.
It is not compatible with USB 1.1 but it is compatible with USB 2.0 and mostly it matters on what motherboard you have. With USB 2.0 is a USB 3.0 port, the speeds will be the same but if it is a USB 3.0 in a USB 3.0 port, the speeds will be increased to about 4.8 - 5 Gbps compared to 480 Mbps.
The usb cable extension is made by another usb cable. The cable is made with one usb connecter and 1 usb connecter. You can simple attach the extender cable to your usb.
