∙ 15y agoThe Viet Cong (VC) were communists living in South Vietnam. Later, the regular army units of North Vietnam would enter the fight (NVA). Diem was the first president of South Vietnam in 1955. He was assassinated in 1963.

Cong is short for Viet Cong. The Viet Cong were the communist guerrilla forces backed by North Vietnam when they fought against South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
North Vietnam aided Viet Cong or the National Liberation Front (NLF) in a guerilla war against the anti-communist. The army of the North was called People's Army of Vietnam or North Vietnamese Army.

After the resolution; the US committed conventional US troops and commenced open warfare against the North Vietnam.
