Catholics.
The war as depicted in the movie, Elzabeth the Golden Age was not entirely accurate. Elizabeth did not ride into battle with her troops. She addressed them eloquently before battle with the Spanish, but would never have been placed directly on the battle lines. Also, in the movie Sir Walter Raleigh lead England into battle with the Spanish Armada. In reality, Raleigh had no role in this famous event.
Sir Walter Raleigh was an English explorer, soldier, and courtier known for his efforts to establish the first English colony in North America, named Virginia in honor of Queen Elizabeth I, and his involvement in the Spanish Armada conflict. He also had a close and complex relationship with Queen Elizabeth I, which led to his rise in power and subsequent fall from favor. Additionally, Raleigh is credited with popularizing tobacco in England, introducing potatoes, and contributing to the spread of the potato across Europe.
Sir Walter Raleigh didn't introduce the potato to Europe; the Spanish did that in 1536. It isn't known when he personally first are a potato, but it has been said that he planted the first potatoes in Ireland, where he lived for seventeen years, spending seven years as Mayor of Youghal, but it's unlikely that story is true. Raleigh was among those who popularized tobacco smoking in England, by example rather than by trade, and this is probably one of the things he is best known for.
Potatoes were brought back from the English colonization of northern America The potato was first cultivated by northern American Indians and was brought back by Sir Walter Raleigh (with tobacco amongst other things). The queen had previously given Sir Raleigh an estate during the plantations in Ireland previously (where Anglo Irish lords were dispossessed of their land and titles and people loyal to the English crown were "planted" in their place). After his return from the new world Raleigh retired to his estate in Ireland and I can only assume brought the potato, since its a starchy tuber it was perfect for the peasants that worked the land, that way they could fill themselves up since usually they had little food.
Yes, the starlings of North America are all descended from a single pair brought from England in the mid-1800.
