When the Britain was brought into the war (as a result of Germany mobilising against neutral Belgium), the whole empire was obliged to help the empire. Australia was part of the British Empire and they sent soldiers to fight. The most famous fight that the Australians were involoved in was Gallipoli in 1914. This took place in Turkey. Britain wanted to gain control of the Dardanelles Strait (which was owned by Turkey) so they could send supplies and troops to Russia to help them fight Germany on the western front.

World War I ended in western Europe when the armistice with Germany took effect on November 11, 1918. On June 28, 1919, Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles marking the official end of the war between Germany and France, Italy, Britain and other allies. Between these two dates, Allied powers had a blockade on Germany that was lifted during the Treaty of Versailles. Further treaties ended war in eastern Europe in the early 1920s.
World War I (WWI), which lasted from 1914 to 1918, involved many countries grouped into two main alliances: the Allies and the Central Powers. The key Allied Powers included France, the United Kingdom, Russia, Italy, and the United States, while the Central Powers primarily consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, and Bulgaria. Numerous other nations participated in various capacities, contributing to the global scale of the conflict.
