World War I ended in Western Europe when the armistice with Germany took effect on November 11, 1918. On June 28, 1919, Germany signed the Treaty of Versailles marking the official end of the war between Germany and France, Italy, Britain and other allies. Between these two dates, Allied powers had a blockade on Germany that was lifted during the Treaty of Versailles. Further treaties ended war in eastern Europe in the early 1920s.
