the substance is a limiting factor, but im not sure at all

Limiting nutrient- single nutrient that either is scarce or cycles very slowly, limiting the growth of organisms in an ecosystem.
A nutrient that is scarce or cycles slowly through an ecosystem is called a limiting nutrient. This is due to the fact that it limits the cycle in the ecosystem.
A substance that is scarce in an ecosystem is known as a Limiting (or limited) Nutrient.

Osmosis is the diffusion of molecules from where they are abundant to where they are scarce through a semi permeable membrane. In red blood cells, this semi permeable membrane is the cell membrane. If red blood cells were placed in a solution abundant with water molecules, they would diffuse into the cells through the membrane
Diffusion is a physical process that involves the spontaneous movement of molecules from where they are plentiful to where they are scarce. This process could occur in either directions and is dependent on the direction of the concentration gradient. If for example, there are more water molecules outside the cell, then the water molecules would diffuse into the cell and if there are more water molecules inside the cell, they would diffuse out of the cell. I both cases, the water molecules have to travel through the cell membrane, which brings us to the next concept: Osmosis - which is the diffusion of molecules along a concentration gradient through a semi-permeable membrane (the cell membrane)
Well, an ecosystem, is a system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their enviroment. An ecosystem can be as small as a field or as large as the ocean. It is used to describe the world's major different habitat types. Terrestrial ecosystems include: arctic and alpine ecosystems, dominated by tundra with scarce vegetation; forest ecosystems, which can be subdivided into a whole range of types including tropical rainforests, Mediterranean evergreen forests, boreal forests, and temperate coniferous, deciduous and mixed forests; grasslands and savannas; and deserts and semi-arid ecosystems. Freshwater ecosystems include lakes, rivers, and marshlands. Marine ecosystems comprise an enormous range, from coral reefs, mangroves, sea-grass beds, and other shallow coastal water ecosystems, to open-water ones, including the mysterious, little-known ecosystems of the abyssal plains and trenches of the world's oceans.

When an ecosystem is limited by a single nutrient that is scarce or cycles very slowly, this substance is called a limiting nutrient.

The scarcity of water is known as a drought.
scarce
It is called scarced needs its like when your in the wild and you see a bear kill a fish mabey that type of fish will become scarce one day or mabet it already is.
