The CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme is aimed at improving energy efficiency, as well as cutting emissions in large public and private sector organisations.
Passive refers to a design that uses natural sunlight. It can be for lighting, as in skylights and large windows, or heating, where thermal glass is used. Active requires collecting solar energy with equipment ( pumps, storage tanks, etc. ) and storing or transferring the energy to where it is needed.
This is not possible in most situations. Of course you can store small amounts in batteries but that is not done by power companies, though it can be done for an individual consumer. The only large scale storage I know of is at Dinorwig in Wales, UK, where there is a pumped storage scheme. A reservoir feeds water turbines which can be reversed to pump water up to the reservoir using surplus power when available, and when there is a sudden demand for extra power, like when a large unit trips out, these water turbines can be brought into service and start generating very quickly. See Wikipedia 'Dinorwig Power Station' for more information There is a similar scheme in Franklin County, Massachusetts. Water is pumped from the Connecticut River to Northfield Mountain Reservoir. This last is located about three miles from the French King Bridge, where Route 2 crosses the Connecticut River. The scheme has a maximum output of just over 1GW; when built it was the largest such station in the world. See Wikipedia 'Northfield Mountain' for more infomation. Not to argue but to clarify, the examples mentioned above are actually examples of storing the power necessary to produce electricity, not storing electric energy itself.

Capacitor is an arrangement for storing large amounts of electric charge and Hence electric energy in a small space.
The condenser on an ignition system is responsible for storing large amounts of energy. It is then released each time the spark plug is ignited to burn the fuel.

A large shed for storing grain is called barn, people store wheat and other kinds of stuff there.

Lots of chemicals store chemical energy. I don't believe that any single chemical is outstanding, not in the sense of storing several times the energy of the "next-best energy saver". Living beings use ATP for short-term energy storage, glucose for long-term energy storage.
Storing energy in large quantities is difficult. A standard car battery can store around half a kilowatt-hour of energy. Fuel cells are being developed to store energy more efficiently (less mass/volume). A method of storing energy that is used in several places in the world is to use excess electrical energy to pump water up into a dam, and the water can then be released to drive the machines that turn the potential energy of that water back into electrical energy.
That is about 130 PSI. A pipe THAT large at that pressure is storing a large amount of energy. A break would be likely to simulate a modest size explosion, with damage to whatever is close by.
