Soldier (Army) Left sleeve would mean service strips (1 bar = 3 years active duty). 3 stripes equals 9 years active duty. Right sleeve would mean overseas service bar (1 bar = 6 months active duty). 3 overseas bars equals 18 months overseas (outside the continental U.S.).
