As in most sciences, such as physics, mathematical assumptions are often made for modelling purposes in economic theory. Simplifications are often described using the Latin term ceteris paribus (trans.: all else being equal), which attempt to assume everything but the two variables for analysis remain constant. Because economics attempts to describe and predict complex social systems, maintaining a track of a large number of interacting agents can be immensely difficult and not cost-beneficial compare to a simpler model that attempts to isolate the root causes of action.

Scientists rarely invent, except for devices to assist their research. Scientists discover natural phenomena and develop theories to predict those phenomena.
Experiments have shown that "psychic" phenomena, such as premonitions and horoscopes do not exist. However, the future may be predeterminable scientifically with supercomputers that take into account many variables. A simple example is to predict that the sun will rise again tomorrow.
No one knows. Attempts to predict dates for this have invariably ended in disappointment, at best.
The scientific method has four steps 1. Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena. 2. Formulation of an hypothesis to explain the phenomena. In physics, the hypothesis often takes the form of a causal mechanism or a mathematical relation. 3. Use of the hypothesis to predict the existence of other phenomena, or to predict quantitatively the results of new observations. 4. Performance of experimental tests of the predictions by several independent experimenters and properly performed experiments.
