The Sinai Peninsula.
Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon and (depending on your definition of country) Palestine have all lost territory to Israel. Jordan: Admittedly all of the taken Jordanian territory was itself territory taken from the British Mandate of Palestine (and not part of the land granted to Hashemite Kings by the British). Egypt: The Egyptian territory taken in the Sinai has been subsequently returned to Egypt on two different occasions (1956-1956, 1967-1982). Syria: Syria has lost the eastern bank of the Sea of Galilee (part of the British Mandate of Palestine) and the Golan Heights (part of the French Mandate of Syria) to Israel and these territories have not been returned. Officially (according to the UN), the Shebaa Farms in the Golan Heights is Lebanese territory (controlled by Israel) but the Lebanese government considers that territory to be Syrian. Palestine: Israel overran Gaza and the West Bank in 1967 and retained them as Occupied Territories. In 1993, Israel devolved parts of the Gaza Strip and West Bank to the Palestinian Authority and in 2005 ceded the remainder of the Gaza Strip to that government. The West Bank has remained a smattering of Palestinian and Israeli military control while Gaza is under complete Palestinian control (currently exercised by Hamas). Lebanon: Southern Lebanon (south of the Litani River) was occupied by Israeli forces from 1982-2000, but was never considered to have become Israeli territory by the Lebanese or the Israelis the way that the other territories have been considered.

Egypt was conquered by Rome, Turkey, France, and Greece. But Rome decided to keep the name and some of its culture.
The immediate result was that it showed that Israel was not going anywhere. Israel now controlled more land in the Middle East and had effectively positioned itself in regional and international affairs.
A few Hebrew families fled to Egypt about 1850 BCE. The remainder remained in Palestine. They were a group of tribes known to the Egyptians as 'Habiru'. With perhaps 100 people involved in the flight to Egypt, it is difficult to describe them as the Israelites, of believe the fantasy biblical stories that on their return to Israel after 300 years 100 people had bred up to the nearly 3,000,000 claimed in the bible. These are myths of the Jewish people and need to be taken as such. The Habiru tribes in Palestine were a loose federation. Again the stories of around 1,000 BCE of David and Solomon also need to be taken in this context - they still were a loose group of tribes known to the Egyptians as living in the hills of Judea. Why are there no remains of Solomon's palaces? The beginning of the Israelites as an historical state begins from about 800 BCE.
They lived in Israel before they were taken as slaves to Egypt.

Prior to 1948, the territory that is now Israel was the British Mandate of Palestine. Britain had taken over the mandated territory from the former colonial power, Turkey, following the First World War and was close to granting independence to the Palestinians when the Jews decided to resolve matters in their own favour.
Joseph (one of the 12 son's of Jacob/Israel) was sold into slavery by his brothers and taken to Egypt. Not really an exile, but he was brought "by chance" there. His family ends up reconnecting with him during a famine; and from there they grow to be over 1 million (estimated, of course.)
The prophet Hosea at Hosea 11:1 says: "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son." We can find the fulfillment at :Matthew 2:15
Actually the hyksos took over Egypt and then they (the Hyksos) enslaved the Hebrews. In 722 B.C. the Assyrians enslaved the northern kingdom of Israel. In 587 BC the rest of Israel in southern kingdom of Judah were taken in exile by the Babylonians.
American hostages were taken by the communists in Iran (1999) Carter gave up the Panama Canal (1979) He helped make a treaty between Egypt and Israel (1979)
In 1967 Egypt, Jordan and Syria all attempted to destroy Israel. Their plan backfired and the parts of their countries that were closest to Israel were captured by Israel. Allthough Israel offered to return the land to the aggressors for a peace agreement it was refused so Israel has annexed the land till it's neighbors agree to peace.
