It is not recommended to read Tehilim at night because it is considered to be the time when DINIM (forces of justice) dominate and reading Tehilim can be counterproductive because if the great contrast that it generates (explained as per the Kabbalah).

The best moment to read Tehilim is at night but after midnight (Chatzot) and before dawn.
