Firstly, even if you take all The Bible literally (which you shouldn't as some parts were never meant to be taken literally like that) then 2000 years ago would be around the time of Jesus' birth, and the Jewish people of the Old Testament were around thousands of years before that as the Old Testament states. So '2000' years is wrong in the first place as the Bible never claims that.

The folly of dating creation by the Bible has caused Creationists real problems as clearly fossil and other evidence points to a world that is millions of years old. The problem arises when some Christians take the book of Genesis very literally and try to put a timescale on the Creation events. However, Genesis was never meant to be a scientific explanation of the creation of the Universe but a theological idea to describe a universe that was created by God at the Big Bang ( as we call it now) with humanity at the pinnacle of creation. To suggest otherwise is not just silly but does not delve into the deeper truths about God and His revelation to humanity, that scripture reveals, but rather accepts them at a very superficial and rather childish level.

Answer:The Bible indicates that the world is about 4,000 years old. Dinosaurs (terrifying lizards) were undoubtedly upon the ark as young animals, which are small. In the book of Job, fearsome animals are described, which appear to be dinosaurs, this being before the world-wide flood. Some dinosaurs may have become extinct shortly after the world-wide flood, due to a change in the food sources. Today, it is recognized by some scientists that huge alligators or crocodiles are, in fact, dinosaurs or terrifying lizards.

The dating methods upon which some depend have been shown in numerous cases to be undependable and inaccurate. Therefore usage of a factor of millions of years is speculation that is unproven. Creation scientists believe the chronology of Scriptures, from which dating can be reasonably discerned, indicates a relatively young earth.

While the Bible was written by men, the Scripture tells us that the prophesy, or telling forth of Scripture, "came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." 2 Peter 1:21. The Holy Spirit was there at the time of creation, as seen in Genesis 1:2: "And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters." Jesus Christ, as part of the Godhead, was also there: "For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: and he is before all things, and by him all things consist." Colossians 1:16,17.

Therefore, God who created all things, is able to tell us the details of what happened at creation through the Scriptures.

Answer:When the Bible was written there was no possible imagined method of being able to determine the age of objects with any degree of accuracy, so they felt they could simply invent a suitably long age that could never be disproved. Unfortunately for them this is not the case, and through various new methods such as looking at formed layers of rock over the ages, and radiometric age-dating (carbon dating), ages of rocks, materials and formations can be accurately calculated. These calculate that some rocks are as old as 4.2 billion years. The chance of a margin of error being so large as to reduce this to a few thousand years is frankly ridiculous.

In any case, choosing to calculate the age of a planet based on the writings of humans in the past, and when they were written, makes absolutely no sense, other than to confirm that the earth did indeed exist when they were written. Assuming the date on these writings is correct, this gives an absolute minimum.

AnswerThe Bible doesn't say how old the earth is. There is a list of generations that some have used to calculate its age, but that only goes back to the creation of Adam and Eve. The six days of creation are not necessarily six rotations of the earth. There's a passage somewhere in the Bible that says a thousand years to man is only an instant to God, so those six days could have been millions or even billions of years.
