How do you retrofit a R12 system to R134a?

The EPA states that the "procedures required for a least-cost retrofit are simple and do not require major component changes. Generally, the process calls for the removal of the oil refrigerant, installation of new fittings and a new label and the addition of either a polyalkylene glycol (PAG) or polyol ester (POE or ester) lubricant as well as the R134a refrigerant"... EPA There are many retrofit kits on the market you can get from an auto parts store like Autozone or Advance and even at discount stores like Wal-mart. ID and Quest are two brands on the market that have closed retrofit kits available.

What type of refrigerant does a 1990 corvette take for its air conditioning?

Your 1990 has R12 refrigerant in it which isn't available anymore at parts stores. To add refrigerant to your vehicle you will have to get the a/c system vaccuumed and retrofitted to accept new r134a refrigerant and pag100 compressor oil. You can take it to a shop to get it vaccuumed and retrofit it yourself with kits from your local Autozone. -broncomudder89

How much freon does your f150 5.0 pickup take?

Can you tell us what year it is. It could be needing R-12 (then you would need to do a retrofit to the R-134a.) You can also look it up on the website linked below and it can tell you what refrigerant and what type of oil and how much of each your system needs. Look on the tab for "locate your low side port" following the instructions to the Refrigerant & Lube Spec.

How do you retrofit and charge the air conditioning system of a 1993 Honda Accord EX 4cyl auto.?

If you mean changing from R-12 freon to R-134, you don't. R-134 uses a different kind of oil and if you put that oil into your present A/C system it will eat through the seals, destroying the pump and everything. Sorry. I really dont think that is the case. Retrofit kits are available to convert to r134 and new O rings are part of it. Compressor oil is compressor oil, just because the refrigerant is different does not mean the oil is. The new refrigerant actually has poorer cooling abilities than r12 but is better for the environment.
