What are the similarities of Mayan and Egyptian pyramids?

The pyramids of Central America and Egypt are from different eras, and have different styles. Most experts believe that pyramid building is something that ancient cultures chose to do (also in China and South America), without having any contact with each other. Pretty much the only evidence of a connection is that the base of the Pyramid of the Sun in Mexico, and the base of the Great Pyramid of Egypt, have the same dimensions, with the Mexican pyramid being precisely half the height of the Egyptian one. Both encode Pi.

Why do you make pyramids?

What is a figure having a polygon and base and triangler sides which meet in a point at the top?

This sounds like you are talking about a pyramid. Pyramids in Geometry are not restricted to the square pyramids you may be used to seeing in pictures of from Egypt. Pyramids are named after the type of polygon that make up their base. In Egypt, since the bases of those pyramids are squares, they are known as square pyramids. If you had a pyramid with a pentagon for a base, then it would be a pentagonal pyramid. Pyramids always have triangles for sides that meet at a common point at the top which is known as the apex.

What does the building of the pyramids tells us about Egyptian society?

The pyramids represent the determination of a society to build something that is both meaningful and difficult. The pyramids were burial tombs, so their leaders were powerful enough to garner the men and materials necessary to produce these monuments. The difficulty came in having the engineering skills to design these pyramids, find the material (limestone blocks) and move it into place. :D
