Liberia was originally founded as a home in Africa for freed slaves, hence the name.
most slaves did relocate after they were freed from slavery in order to find a better home for themselves and their families

I know of one, Liberia.
Robert E. Lee was against slavery. He actually freed all the slaves he had. The only reason he fought for the Confederacy was because he wanted to stay loyal to his home state of Virginia.
The two abolitionists, Douglas and Stowe had a disagreement about the colonization of freed slaves. Stowe believed that a return to Africa offered former slaves the best way for them to reach their full potential, and there, not be impeded by white people. Douglas believed that freed slaves were now in the United States and that this was their home. Africa was too far removed in the middle of the 19th Century, to be considered as a haven for freed slaves.
Because other African tribes defeated them in battle and captured them as slaves, then sold them to Europeans. Note, it was other Africans that made slaves of Africans and took them from their homes, not Europeans.
Some newly freed slaves might choose to remain in the South because of family ties, economic opportunities, or lack of resources to move to other regions. Additionally, some ex-slaves might have established roots and connections in the South that made it feel like home despite its history of slavery.
Some slaves were treated kindly by their owners and developed friendships with them, especially if they worked in their master's home, or were particularly handy as a field hand. Some slaves were afraid of what it would take to live outside of the community they knew. These slaves often stayed on as paid servants or at least free room and board, after they were freed. They thought it was better than trying to make it on their own
