Me, I'm a girl. But this is my opinion. I would like it if I got to know they guy before I date him. Just become friends. Then when you feel you know each other enough, ask her out on a date. If things go well, ask her to be your girlfriend.
But if you want to do it differently, ask her out and get to know her when you go out on dates.

I'm a guy. Everyday I have to see the girl of my dreams holding hands with some guy that I found out that she was dating right before I was going to ask her out. Girls are unpredictable, so get to know her quickly (if you haven't already) without coming on too strong and being a stalker. Once you're really good friends, ask her out. Maybe you won't have to end up like I did.
