The French and Indian War is the common U.S. name for the North American part of the world-wide conflict known as the Seven Years' War (1756-1763). As a result of the war in America, France ceded its Canadian possessions to Britain and its ally Spain ceded Florida to Britain. To compensate Spain for losing Florida, France also ceded Louisiana to Spain.
