America spent nearly $165 billion on the war. 58,000 Americans died, and hundreds of thousands were wounded, some even permanently paralyzed. Over 2 million Vietnamese (north, south, civilians alike) died as a result of the war. They had to deal with a country in tatters, and an economy that had gone down the drain. Their land today is still scattered with unexploded bombs, land mines, and other dangers waiting to be stepped on. Their jungles and marshlands were destroyed by chemicals such as napalm and Agent Orange. Many of their historic buildings were destroyed, as well as the homes of millions.=When Vietnam War Veterans returned, many were greeted with only coldness. After the end of the war in 1975, America went back to it's every-day lifestyle, and the war was basically forgotten until 1982. On November 11 1982, the Vietnam War Memorial was built in honor of all the soldiers who died in the war. The 7 million dollars used to construct the wall came from private organizations and single donors.=
