ahupua'a - Land division usually extending from the uplands to the sea, so called because the boundary was marked by a heap (ahu) of stones surmounted by an image of a pig (puaʻa), or because a pig or other tribute was laid on the altar as tax to the chief.

Ahupua'a are land divisions in ancient Hawaii. They are long strips of land from the mountains to the sea and they have all of the essentials that the ancient Hawaiians needed to live. Hawaiians were only allowed to take what was on their strip of land unless they have special permission. I know that there are tons of ahupuaa on Maui, but I would only like to know a few of the main ahupuaa (at least 10 main ahupuaa). There are many ahupuaa on maui, sorry, I just know what an ahupua'a is.
