Your shotgun was manufactured between 1905 and 1922. Concerning shooting it: You can't know how that gun has been used for the last 85 to 100 years. Imagine placing your face next to 100 year old steel and setting off an explosion on the other side, counting on the steel to hold. If that doesn't frighten you, take the gun to a reputable gunsmith and have him check it out for you. Personally, I would find a pretty wall and use the gun for decoration.

Genuine Armory Steel was a mark used by Crescent Firearms, 1893-1930, and also by Meriden Fire Arms, 1905-1915. The phrase doesn't really mean anything except that the barrels are not laminated steel.

no it has a 4 digit serial # Knickerbocker came from 2 different companies. The American Gun Company, New York, stamped a five digit serial number on the barrel, forestock and stock end.
very good question. new york arms co. is nowhere to be found. have very old 12 gauge single barrel shotgun stamped "GENUINE ARMORY STEEL" and "CHOKE BORED" "NEW YORK ARMS CO." New York Arms Co was a trade name manufactured by Crescent Firearms. Genuine Armory Steel - Choke Bored is also a Crescent marking. They also used the name Armory Gun Co.
