When chipmunks mate and have children, they look after them for a week and then leave. So a chipmunk hardly ever knows it's parents.

well lets see some reptiles such as the Chameleon bury their eggs and leave them to fend for themselves. also some dinosaurs left their eggs to fend and well it can get nasty so alot of reptiles dont look after their young

There are animals that do not care for their young. Majority of these are not birds or mammals. Most reptiles, fish, crustaceans and insects do not care for their young, but of course there are always exceptions to every rule, depending on what species you are asking about.

Most species of fish, reptiles and amphibians don't take care of their babies.

Usually, they lay the eggs and then leave them. Sometimes they guard the nest until the eggs hatch, and then leave.
